Accelerating the Journey to Zero-emission Transportation! 🌿
Probably polarizing news from the Volker Wissing and the German government!
They've approved a groundbreaking bill that will accelerate the run for zero-emission trucks by the transport and logistic industry.
Starting from December 1, 2023, heavy commercial vehicles emitting high levels of COâ‚‚ like trucks will face a heavy additional tax.
But here's also the trade-off as existing and future operators of emission-free trucks and vans will be exempt from this toll until the end of 2025. That's right, ZERO road tolls for those committed to driving a greener future and that will apparently further close the gap between the TCO (total cost of ownership) of a zero-emission truck.
But the encouraging news doesn't stop there. Even after 2025, emission-free trucks will only pay 25% of the regular toll rate, that’s amazing. It's an irresistible deal for environmentally-conscious businesses but yes, for fossil fuel-powered transport it will mean that TCO (total cost of ownership) will go up and the additional costs will finally hit brands and consumers.
And the impact is set to be massive. From July 1, 2024, all commercial vehicles weighing over 3.5 tons will be subject to the toll, pushing the entire industry to step up its game and reduce CO2 emissions.
But that's not all. The Federal Ministry of Transport is investing up to €2.2 billion in funds for climate-friendly commercial vehicles and infrastructure development. It's a game-changer for the industry's transition towards sustainable transportation.
Quantron AG supports this polarizing decision as it will naturally accelerate the transition to electric trucks. Logistic providers and brands need to act now as long as there are normal CO2 taxes, but these taxes will continue to increase and incentives will come down until zero-emission in trucking will become the new normal.
